The Olympus PEN-F has an electronic shutter option that allows for higher shutter speeds than a mechanical shutter. That may be advantageous when wanting to use a large aperture under bright light conditions, for instance. On the other hand, this particular type of electronic shutter may lead to image distortion when shooting moving subjects, due to the sequential way how the sensor is scanned.

An added advantage is the fact that a non-mechanical shutter is virtually silent. Useful for circumstances like the one above! Camera sensor stabilization was also useful, considering that I was holding a 135 mm lens (270 mm equivalent) without a tripod.

This image also shows how I’m still inexperienced with the PEN-F. I inadvertently left the camera on a highly saturated color mode, which does not make much senseĀ for photos of a concert…
